Islamabad: A three Days workshop on “Access to Technology for Innovation and Establishing Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) Network in Pakistan”, was organized by Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) from January 31 to February 02, 2016, at the Auditorium of HEC, Islamabad.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Shahid Rashid, Chairman, IPO-Pakistan. In his welcome address, he highlighted the initiatives taken by IPO-Pakistan to promote the protection of innovations and dissemination of technical knowledge in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, HEC, in his address ensured the HEC’s support in the establishment of TISCs in the academia all over the country.
The objective of the workshop was to create awareness among the Academia and Research & Development (R&D) Institutions about the significance of Patent information for the promotion of Research and innovation. During the workshop, the WIPO Experts, Mr. Andrew Czajkowski, Head, Innovation & Technology Support Section of innovation and Mr. Mussadiq Hussain, Program Officer, Innovation and Technology Support Section highlighted the technical tools and strategies to retrieve technical information from free online available Patent databases. The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants from academia and R&D institutions from different parts of the country. At the end of the workshop, certificates for participation were distributed among the attendees.
On the third day of workshop in a roundtable discussion of the stakeholders, it was decided that IPO Pakistan in collaboration with HEC and WIPO will establish a network of TISCs at Universities, R&D Institutions.
